My intention as a doula and childbirth educator is to support you to achieve the birth experience of YOUR choosing. We know that when women feel well informed, respected and supported, they experience and remember their births positively. And that is my goal for you. Whether you would like an un-medicated birth or to use pain medication, I provide heart-felt, unwavering support.
What that looks like is different for every family and is dependent upon what has the greatest meaning and value to you. How we get there is based on you - your needs, your hopes and what matters most to you. Not completely sure what that is? That is where I can help. I've developed several skill sets to that end. I am known for my approach to helping clients discover what matters most to them, make informed choices and communicate those choices clearly to their care providers. I am very committed to providing great prenatal education.
I combine 35 years experience in movement/massage and breath work with Confident Birthing education to help you navigate the unique 'joyful stresses' of welcoming baby and determining what is best for your family. I love learning what matters to you and what your individual needs are to have a positive, satisfying birth and postpartum experience – including connecting you to other resources and birth professionals.
Beyond that, let me say this: my approach to doula work is based on a deep belief in, and respect for, the process of labor and birth, the inherent wisdom, intuition and strength of women and the possibility of great transformation and love available to the family through birth. I never cease to marvel at women's strength and capacity to surrender so deeply and parent's commitment to love so fully. I also understand that, as one client put it, my presence provides peace of mind for all of that to happen and I take that responsibility and privilege very seriously. I would be happy to visit with you to see if I might be able to help you. For some parent's perspectives - here are their own words.

In a safe, non-judgmental space you’ll be heard, understood and acknowledged as you remember, re-tell and eventually reclaim your birth story.Women experience birth trauma for many different reasons. Despite the best efforts at preparation, birth can feel overwhelming. While birth can appear normal to others who were present, research confirms that many mothers describe their births as traumatic. This may be because it isn’t always the most dramatic events that generate birth trauma, but the more common factors so often experienced that lead to overwhelming emotion and sense of loss of control. Common possible factors are: A long labor or a very rapid painful birth Feelings of loss of control Poor pain relief Lack of information, communication Sudden or unanticipated events Emergency delivery Fear for your own or your baby’s safety Baby in NICU Poor postpartum support Understanding the complex feelings you might be having can be difficult for family and friends, however, without the opportunity to process your birth completely you may experience mental and emotional distress that can affect many areas of your life and may cause increased anxiety in subsequent pregnancies and births. I designed Birth Story Support to help parents process an overwhelming birth experience in a way that does not re-traumatize but instead promotes healing, a sense of personal agency and forward motion.
